BIOGRAPHY

Cameron Stewart (b. 1996, Craigavon, Northern Ireland) is a Belfast-based painter and founding Director of Arcade Studios Belfast. Working primarily in oil and distemper, Stewart’s paintings draw from film stills, mass media imagery and observed landscapes, exploring ideas of memory, place and romanticism through a distinctly painterly language. Oscillating between representation and abstraction, his work employs ambiguity, atmosphere and fragmentation to construct psychologically charged spaces that reflect on identity and perception.

Stewart graduated with First Class Honours in Fine Art, specialising in Painting, from Ulster University in 2019. Since graduating, he has exhibited throughout Ireland and internationally, including exhibitions at The MAC and FE McWilliam Gallery & Studio. Recent exhibitions include As Far As The Eye Can See: Contemporary Painting from ABC (2025) and New Exits: 10 Years of Painting Shows at The MAC (2022).

His work is held in both public and private collections, including the permanent collection of Ulster University and the Office of Public Works Art Collection, alongside private collections and commercial placements in New York, including Banana Republic, Flatiron; the Orior showroom; and The Malin, Flatiron.

Alongside his studio practice, Stewart co-founded Arcade Studios Belfast in 2021, establishing it as a significant artist-led studio and exhibition space supporting emerging and established contemporary artists in Northern Ireland.
